At the beginning of our search for success and wealth we often think money is supreme. If we didn’t cut corner, we will soon realize that the experiences on the journey called success and wealth is more important.

When we take time to build skills and develop the requisite experience, money will come for sure (if only we trust the process and never give up).

When you look back, you’ll thank God you never gave up; if only you didn’t give up on the way. Tough time never last but tough people do. Why tough people last is often because they finally gain all the experience necessary to change their stories.

If you persist you will learn all you need and easily you will cross over as the champion.

The knowledge, the skill, wisdom and experience is more than money. The reason is that when you lose money at hand, the experience and wisdom will help you launch again. But without the wisdom, financial loss may cripple one’s life for a lifetime.

Don’t rush getting more cash, but the underlying wisdom, that is, the secret of wealth.

With deep insight, you can build new empires even in the desert when you know what to do.

Yesterday is gone, today is a new day. Rise up to the moment. The failures of yesterday should not create a grave for your tomorrow. Take your failures of the past as the cocoon that will give birth to the beautiful butterfly of tomorrow.

There is a season we seem not be on high motion, yes. But that should not stop our growth. Like the butterfly in the cocoon. Though it is imprisoned, yet it continues to grow.

Yes we all remember our beautiful butterfly, the beautiful butterfly. It is not always so beautiful. There was a time it was caged in a thick subcutaneous layer where the young creature is immovable. It lives its life in an enclosed case. Yet it keeps growing until a new season emerge and it cast off the cocoon and fly out to embrace a new season of freedom; then light comes.

Today is a new day. Don’t allow yesterday’s failure to keep you down. What you see is what you become. Stop seeing unending spate of poverty, failure and lack-lustre life. Change the vision and change the beat. Stop dancing to the music of limitations and drawbacks. Declare only what God says and dance only to the rhythm within your soul.

Life has seasons, it will not always be a dark night, the light will come after the darkness, the flood will not last for a lifetime and the drought will give way to the raining season. Singing will come after mourning and laughter after a time of pain. The evil days will not pervade eternally for a child of God who walks in his faith. Be opened to a new day.

Make everyday a new day of hope.

THE SECRET OF AN ILLITERATE MOM TO HER SON

Once upon a time, a young educated man went back home to meet his illiterate mom in the village. This was after living in the city for a while and had grown poorer than his fellows who remained in the village and who never traveled out for once. He went back to his mother tattered and disturbed.

“Mother, why am I poorer even than my friends in the village. Am I under a curse?” The son asked his mother with concern.

His mom looked for a while, then she asked some questions from him: How many people’s name do you know in your street? How many people learn from you? How many people do you help to solve their problems right in the city? How many people depend on you to solve their problems around you?

The son told the mother that he is alone and minds his business right in the city to avoid problems of the city.

Mother told him: This is why you are poor and you will remain so until you change how you do things. It is not a matter of being under a curse; you will remain a failure until you begin to attend to the needs of men.

Solve more of people’s problems and you will come out of poverty; stay alone and grow poorer. People who gain wealth don’t stay alone and nobody succeeds alone.”

She adds: “Even Kamilu the yam farmer feeds many people in the city, which is why he is wealthy though he lives in the village.” This simple wisdom dazed the son and he went back to the city to attend to the needs of many. He began to solve people’s problems. The more he solved problems the wealthier he became.

Wealth answers to service, giving, sharing and helping others one way or the other.

Prayer alone will not change poverty to riches in individuals, societies and nations.

He who gives sparingly will gain sparingly.

Like the corn, if you have put in all the efforts you can and have done all you should then rest. The farmer that rest in the confidence that hard labours are rewarded brings home the bumper harvest. The farmer doesn’t doubt the result after doing his part. If you have seen the doubting farmers, they reap scantily.

Those who pursue money and wealth grow poorer, but those who put in the hard labour get richer and more nourished. This is the difference between Nigeria and the Western Nations. Everybody want to corner wealth in Africa and they tend towards scarcity.

Forget about success, give out value and you shall grow wealthier and more prominent. Let us make our nation wealthier by productivity, hard work and impact.

When you know that just labour brings just result, you will want to plant quality seed and yield quality labour in order to have the best life can offer to you. But when you doubt, you cut corner and get hurt in the trail. The farmer that fails to put in the labour have no harvest to expect.

In addition, the farmer that goes every now and then to trouble the farm will not have maximum yield. I remember when we were young; we will go as often as possible to check the cobs of maize on a standing stalk. Then we realized later that those corns don’t do fine. In the same vein, to keep checking on the tubers beneath the ground lead the tubers to become stunted in growth.

As long as the earth remains, seed time and harvest time will never cease. This is all you need to bank on. If you believe this unerring principle, you wouldn’t be lazy and you will be committed to your work with all intensity and determination.

What you sow is what you will reap. Rest in this truth and you will be liberated.

In the face of uncertainty I have the confidence that my labour and love shall be rewarded in due season.

THE TWO WINGS OF SUCCESS

A king once ruled in a far away country who was all powerful and great. He fought their battles and was well acclaimed as the deliverer of his realm. Pride enters into him and he began to live on the people with heavy hands.

He got to a point when he began to take the wives of his subjects and acquire wealth through illicit means. He thought he could have his ways forever. Unfortunately, one of his subjects in fits of rage brought out his gun and killed the king in broad day light.

Despite his greatness, his deficiency in character killed him.

The lesson is: Nobody flies on the wings of gifts, ability or talents alone. We all need a second wing – character for a sustained impact and influence on our world. This means to do great works without character will not take anyone far in life. The wings of endowment and character must go side by side.

This means that before we pursue greatness, gifts, or capacity we need to firstly develop our character and values. It is useless to get to the top and fall like pack of cards. Have a look at your career whether in organizations, politics or humanitarian endeavours. Do you attain the greater heights by character, scheming or pure ability.

Talents and gifts are not enough in life, you need matching character and right living. The reason why societies crumble isn’t because the people lack adequate training or education, but because they lack virtue and values.

Our nation, Nigeria has great people who are well read both home and abroad. Our sickness is basically that of skewed value system.

The Third Worlds are beneath not because of lack of resources and human endowment but because of cultural-like vices.

If you want to fly far in life, you would need to build outstanding character along with your natural or divine endowment. No bird flies with one wing.

Employer who wants value for money paid for a job must of necessity have a clear standard upon which performance is measured. Therefore an employee should be bold to ask for The Job Specifications Statement or manual.

Without a measure you wouldn’t know whether you are meeting up with the target or not. Without a target there would be no focus in attaining unto higher level of productivity.

Career, like a business and a life to be lived should be purposely driven. Career leaders are driven by and on purpose.

What is the reason why you want to have a job?

Why do you want a specific job?

There must be a well stated reason(s). Remember that the reason for taking up a job should be more than money because the motivations from money are usually short-lived.

The job you took should be primarily a means to express yourself and your God given talents. In doing this satisfactorily brings in the money.

This is why you find out that a new employee who is driven primarily by money will begin after few months on the job to grow apathy towards the job which used to give him excitement in time past.

When the excitement due to money is gone, purpose is what you have left. When remunerations are poor, something higher should keep you going which should be your overriding life purpose. At the end of life, when you look back, what would you be glad you are able to accomplish? If you don’t have a compelling reason, you cannot fix yourself to the exercise of getting on with the challenges of a job.

Job without a strong overriding purpose will grind one down. To make money the reason is to be easily corrupted on the job.

What is the compelling reasons that can keep you on a job; even in critical moments?

Always find clear vision why you are taking up a job (beyond mere cash or material accumulation).

Among your purpose is the desire for a quality life and positive contribution. Your overarching life purpose is your supreme navigation tool for an outstanding life whether on the job or in real life. Purpose on a job helps you chart your coordination with clarity; and you don’t have to be supervised to do every nitty-gritty of your job.

Without purpose, you can waste the rest of your life at one spot only to retire with nothing to show for it.

Purpose is everything!
