How Lies Became Law and Truth Became Rebellion

There is a country where lies are written into law and truth is punished as rebellion. A place where deception is an art, and governance is a game played by the few at the expense of the many.

The system is simple: bring all the meat to the centre table, let the rulers feast, and throw the bones to the masses. They call it governance, but it is nothing more than organised plunder.

The Curse of Centralism

This is not just about corruption; it is about a flawed system that enables it. A system where power is hoarded at the centre, ensuring that a handful of individuals control the fate of millions. It is a system built to fail the people while enriching the powerful.

The vultures have ruled for decades. They are not stepping aside anytime soon.

I once met an old man who said:
“Call them what they are—vultures. Maybe then, the people will see them for what they truly are.”

And so, I name them Vultures—because they do not lead; they consume. They do not build; they devour. They circle over the nation, waiting to strip it of its last flesh.

The Election Cycle: A Feast Repeated

Every four years, these vultures return, disguised as saviours. They sing the same songs, make the same promises, and take the same votes. They will always get the votes because the votes are their lifeblood.

And we, knowing what they are, still give them power.
We cry for change, yet we recycle the same failures.

What If We Stopped?

What if, instead of voting blindly, we paused? What if we refused to legitimize a broken system? What if we demanded a restructuring, a fair system that does not concentrate wealth and power in the hands of a greedy few?

“He who puts the meat into his mouth before sharing does not mean well.”

A nation where subnational entities manage their own resources would weaken corruption, empower local governance, and make it harder for vultures to thrive.

But as long as we play by their rules, we will continue to suffer under their laws of deception.

The Only Way Out

If we truly want change, we must first reject the game that keeps us enslaved. We must demand a system that works for the people, not just the powerful.

Until then, the vultures will keep circling.
The feast will continue.
And the people will keep gnawing at bones, waiting for a miracle that will never come.

Mr. Peter was living a life that contradicted the values he was trying to instill in his children. Despite his lessons on honesty and integrity, he was frequently coming home with ill-gotten gains from his office. His meager salary couldn’t possibly support his luxurious lifestyle, complete with multiple cars and a hefty bank account. His children saw through his hypocrisy, and no amount of lecturing could make them respect values he himself did not uphold.

Mr. Peter’s situation is a microcosm of our government. Governments often try to instill discipline and introduce beneficial policies, but these efforts are undermined when leaders fail to live up to the standards they set for their citizens. No matter how beneficial a policy might be, if leaders are not above reproach, the citizens will not trust or follow them.

When leadership lacks integrity, it leads to a breakdown in societal trust and compliance. Citizens become impatient with policies, and in some cases, deliberately act out in defiance of the government. When this happens, it’s a clear sign that the government needs to reassess its actions and take responsibility. It means that business as usual is no longer acceptable.

Unfortunately, many leaders fail to recognize the signs of impending crisis. They do not see that public resources are depleting and that their continued corruption and extravagance could lead to anarchy. This article serves as a plea for the government to become responsible.

The truth is, leaders cannot uphold principles that they themselves do not adhere to. Societal transformation can only happen if leaders live in accordance with their policies and programs. We have often heard politicians call for citizens to understand the need for austerity, to accept meager salaries, and to endure project delays due to a lack of funds. However, these same politicians live opulent and extravagant lifestyles.

For example, the average Nigerian senator takes home more than 10 million naira a month, with some reports suggesting figures as high as 30 million. They expect citizens who earn as little as 50,000 naira to quietly accept this disparity. It’s like beating a child and expecting them not to cry.

Our leaders need to work towards providing a living wage for citizens. The average government official has a padded lifestyle funded by the public purse. Instead of cutting costs, their remuneration is constantly adjusted upwards to satisfy their insatiable greed.

For government policies to succeed, leaders must lead by example. They must embody the values they wish to see in their citizens. Only then can trust be restored, and societal transformation take place.

The truth is, we all need to adjust to accommodate the season we are in so that our nation can march toward preeminence in the near future. In the jungle, it’s not the strongest that survives, but the animal that can adapt. Similarly, we need to make some adjustments. These changes can help our nation shed the label of a third-world country.

The current season in Nigeria demands that everyone adapt or adjust in one way or another. By doing so, we can navigate this challenging era of hyperinflation and high living costs. Leaders, as the watchdogs of society, must lead by example. If they fail and continue to indulge in greed amidst scarcity, we will inevitably crash sooner or later.

Leadership’s essence is to provide direction to followers, and it’s time for our leaders to exemplify integrity and accountability. While it’s true that one cannot give what they do not have, this should not be an excuse for the cluelessness of our current crop of leaders, which has plagued us for decades. Many of them lack the merit to be called leaders, driven more by a propensity to loot than to lead.

It’s high time citizens began to seek out and support individuals who embody prudence, modesty, discipline, and frugality. We need leaders who, through their upbringing, understand how to live a life of deprivation and honesty.

With such leaders, citizens will naturally learn to defer gratification, adjust, and pave the way for future development. This will happen because they have role models who live by example. Unfortunately, with the current extravagant lifestyle of our leaders, the situation is dire. In time, things will fall apart because the center is already on the verge of breaking.

Let us not forget the purpose of this message: whatever leaders want from their citizens must begin with them. This is the benchmark of responsible leadership. As a note of warning, if we don’t change, the crisis we create over time will change us and humble us to nothingness. We should not wait for the pain of irresponsible leadership to force this change upon us.

It is a stark truth that laws made to prevent a hungry lion from killing a goat will not hold. This principle applies equally to human beings. I am going to discuss the pervasive issue of corruption in the civil service through the lens of a story, illustrating how it has insidiously overtaken the system and affected the entire fabric of our nation.

Ahmed was a young, idealistic man who secured a job in the civil service. He was ecstatic about his new role and vowed to be an outstanding and conscientious employee. Ahmed was assigned to the tax department, where he and his colleagues were responsible for ensuring that tax defaulters were fined and compelled to pay up.

Initially, Ahmed believed that his salary of ₦85,000, based on the minimum wage, would be sufficient to support his wife and family. However, the rising inflation soon made it clear that this amount was grossly inadequate.

Monthly Expenses: The Reality Check

To understand Ahmed’s predicament, let’s take a closer look at his monthly expenses:

Transportation: Ahmed lives about four kilometers from his office. His daily commute costs him ₦2,000. Over the course of a month, he spends more than ₦40,000 just on commuting. Including other transport-related expenses, this amount easily exceeds ₦50,000.

Utilities: The family’s power bill is ₦20,000 per month.

Daily Living Expenses: Ahmed’s family of four needs approximately ₦5,000 per day for food and other essentials, totaling around ₦150,000 per month.

Other Expenses: Costs for clothing, education of his children, housing, and miscellaneous expenses add up significantly.

In total, Ahmed’s monthly expenses amount to approximately ₦350,000 to ₦400,000. His salary, however, remains at ₦85,000, leaving a substantial shortfall.

The Descent into Corruption

Faced with this financial gap, Ahmed began to look for ways to supplement his income. In his role at the tax department, the average fine for tax defaulters is ₦25,000. Ahmed saw an opportunity to bridge his financial shortfall by soliciting bribes. Instead of requiring defaulters to pay the official fine, he would demand ₦5,000 to be paid into his personal account. On an average day, Ahmed handles between 10 and 20 cases, making a minimum of ₦50,000 daily. This translates to over a million naira every month, all siphoned from the government.

The Broader Implications

While it’s easy to vilify Ahmed, his story is reflective of a much larger issue within the civil service. Ahmed represents the average civil servant who, faced with insufficient wages and rising living costs, resorts to corruption to make ends meet. This systemic problem underscores the need for significant reforms to address wage inadequacies and to establish robust anti-corruption mechanisms.

To combat the monster of corruption in the civil service, there must be a concerted effort to improve wages, implement stringent anti-corruption policies, and promote a culture of integrity and accountability. By addressing these root causes, we can begin to dismantle the systemic corruption that undermines our institutions and the trust of the public.

WE RISE BY LIFTING OTHERS – THE NIGERIA STORY

Nobody rise by suppressing others. This is evident in the Nigeria story and a lesson from historical Israel.

Some many years ago, Egypt enslaved Israel. They were the royalty of a kind, and Israel was the servant.

Over time, Israel gave birth to the strong species as Egypt brought forth weaklings. As we know in real life, pain leads to strength.

You cannot put somebody down forever, and as you do this you too remain down. We rise by lifting others.

Egypt’s adamant attitude to keep Israel as a slave perpetually broke the power of Egypt and led to many untold hardships and deaths.

Has this not been replicated in Nigeria? Is history not being rewritten? Is the supposed ruling section of Nigeria at peace? Are they not breeding weakness through the ranks?

When you make somebody believe that he doesn’t need to be competent to get things, you destroy such a clan, tribe or society.

Yes, an idiot could be a ruler, it wouldn’t change the fact that he’s an idiot.

Look at the supposed ruling tribes:

What kind of children do they litter abroad? The ruler that gives birth to offspring of slaves to the world needs to know that he is a slave. These same children behave like barbarians in the 21st Century, yet they claim to own the entire land.

I do think it’s a befuddled mind that believes he can own and grab lands. No mortal owns any land. The land is leased out for as long as we are alive. Let the warring tribes stop killing and striving for lands that are not theirs; it further makes them a pariah in Nigeria.

Rulers who thought that all he needs is to plunder the rest is all he needs, also need to be schooled that nature balances injustice.

The unseen hand of God moves around the world to right wrong and bring justice on the earth eternally. He who is evil, let him remain as evil and he who is good should remain as good. Everyone will be amply rewarded, it’s just a matter of time.

Let us humble our souls and look critically: The leaders of our realm, over the years had more out-of-school children. This same tribe sustained unwholesome policies that keep Nigeria down (quota system).

Go to this end you will find a land reeked of blood, unrest, violence, banditry, and terrorism spawned like a tale of horror in an Arabian story.

Do we talk about recent plagues of locusts and birds affecting their farmlands in certain states? How about strange sicknesses that plague even their innocent kids; innocent because they are not yet adequately indoctrinated as grabbers.

When leaders have evil hearts, they end up hurting their kin and Kindred. You cannot murder sleep and you find sleep.

You cannot keep others down and rise.

WE CAN NOT CONTINUE THIS WAY

Exclusivity in diversity, a growing tool of APC; is a time bomb to disintegrate Nigeria.

To exalt a tribe as the decider of the fate of the rest is inimical to a truly federal system. It antagonizes the Game Changer model.

We cannot decide the fate of a nation as diverse as Nigeria based on tribal supremacy or number. This will be like a dead fish that begins to decay from the head.

May we not sink a beautiful nation of ours through the greed of a group. May history not count you among those who destroy our heritage.

An emerging model for sustaining growth and development will never be achieved by anyone when we sidetrack a group in a diverse society.

Also, when we celebrate a majority based on their power to help win a vote we have inadvertently elevated them to the status of a god. That is a cankerworm in a truly federal system.

We cannot continue to rely on a system that has not yielded fruits since the nation’s independence: building numbers for the mere purpose of winning power and stealing resources of other tribes. This is daylight robbery. It must stop.

If our major tribes are mere gladiators who relish in their power to win votes and not in another way of contributing to healthy growth and development we are doomed.

In an advanced society, you don’t inscribe illegality in the constitution that gives room for the oppression of one another in a federal system. It’s time we expunge such or everyone goes back to his camp.

It’s a cheap way of handing over our souls to a tribe and asking them to do to us as they like.

If Tinubu wins an election by bowing to the supremacy of a tribe he cannot fulfil his best blueprints but that of the power that installs him. Often majority do go wrong.

We want a leader who will win on the bases of harmonizing our diversity. This might be a project beyond 2023. Yet, we have to start building a structure for such a society. Until then, it’s going to be Monkey Republic in a pseudo-military imposed unitary system of government, headed by a baboon.

We are not yet in a democracy. We are sold deceit.

We are not slaves. The least of the tribes aren’t slaves in Nigeria. So, we should give everyone a space for expression and recognition. Only then do we step into a democracy.

The essence of a truly federal system is to protect the weak from the strong, and help the weak to be stronger based on equity, not equality.

A federal government is designed to help every member or group benefit from diversity. It also does not give room for plundering and looting of the smaller members.

In a system whereby the strong take advantage of the smaller tribes and ravishes based on the number, then it is questionable. We cannot continue this way. No, we cannot.

On a final note: APC after 8 years has not improved the healthy structure of a balanced federal system. Instead, it enhances the supremacy of a tribe and the dominant groups.

Instead of healing the schism in a diverse society as ours, bloated with ego, we are told to go to hell😀.

They made me remember foolish King Rehoboam who tore the kingdom of his fathers.

Will APC turn out to be a Rehoboam?

THE DANGER OF A MUSLIM-MUSLIM TICKET & BOKO-HARAM TERRORISM

We could say that it is not important who leads us as a nation in terms of religious affiliation. But not at this time.

The challenge we are set to have at this moment of a Muslim-Muslim ticket will further entrench the legitimacy of the pursuit of the extreme groups of Islamic fanatics taking a look on why the VP has Kashim Shettim.

He was elected governor in 2011 and re-elected by a wider margin in 2015; his term in office was dominated by the deadly Boko Haram insurgency. 

The APC Vice President candidate is from Borno State, the very hotbed of terrorism.

Could it be that APC is seeking to pacify the terror group? They should rethink. It is like telling the lion to stop drinking blood because there’s enough straw in the store.

Terror only answers to terror. You don’t bow to terror else you end up its slave.

APC cannot seek to befriend terror and expect Nigeria to be quiet. One cannot think through why it has to be Shettima.

A question begging for answer: Why do you think under our watch, a group of terrorists break a prison at the FCT without a fight and the rest of us will keep quiet. Afterward, no head rolls and things go back to normalcy. Are we saying that APC is a friend to terrorists?

The government has to answer to this. We need an answer.

The Islamic terror group hasn’t hidden their intentions of taking over power at the centre. Now we are getting closer to the climax of all things.

After the next cascading events of tumult (for power is not easily given) peace will follow.

For evil men will no longer rule Nigeria

One thing I know for sure is this if we don’t tread carefully this nation may implode with splinter nations. For I do know for sure, that no region is superior to others in deciding the fate of the rest of us.

For when we stand for the right thing, we become free.

It is time: We would need to go onboard to redefine the type of Federal System we are practising where only one region decides who leads us

I know we are in an interesting time.

WHY EVIL GROW IN NIGERIA BY THE DAY

Judgement with impunity leads to regression of the value of a society.

A nation where the judges tinker with the law and judgement to suit their sentiments will continue to spiral into anarchy.

Such a society gives birth to people of the base character. This is why banditry, terrorism, corruption and such vices have come to roost in Nigeria; because the evil men know for sure the way to buy their ways out.

The judges become friends with evil men as the good people go into hiding. We should no longer wonder about the alarming rate of growth of evil in our country. The judges have hands in it; a vobvious truth.

When the looter knows that he will have a covering of a judge so far money will cross hands, he will not be afraid to loot the nation to the skin

An example of the wrong use of the law is Plea Bargain. In this, somebody embezzled #32 billion. Then you asked him to go pay whatever he has and to serve two years in prison.

This has emboldened stealing and corruption in Nigeria because the judgement on plundering national resources has been relaxed.

The new language is, steal enough and pay the judge enough to cover your tracks. Judges now abate stealing and corruption – a partner in the destruction of our common heritage.

Another example is electoral malpractice. Our judges find every means to favour their interests and the interests of those who grease their palms.

Here are some instances to consider as some of the judgement seem complex to understand for the common man:

In Imo state, the man who came forth turns out to be the governor.

In Bayelsa State, the deputy governor’s candidate has a flawed certificate. On this basis, they lost an election which was already won. In common thinking, what is sensible in judgement is to pass judgement on the soul that “sins”. The judge’s stand is that they own the joint ticket.

Now in another state: In Kogi, the governor died before the declaration of the result. The sensible thing is to push forward the deputy on the status of the joint ticket. Instead, they transferred the result to an entirely different person who lost to Audu.

We have gotten to a state in Nigeria where no one is certain of what is right. For this reason, many are afraid to go to court to seek redress.

The way out: there should be a tribunal to judge even the judges who misapply the laws.

Abuse of judgement should no longer be swept under the carpet.

A judge who frees corrupt politicians should be made to pay the losses back to the coffee of the state; at least a fifth (20%).

In some instances, a judge can be jailed, demoted or sacked if found to grossly abuse his office.

When judges and magistrates know that they are being watched, they will sit up.

When citizens know that there is no hiding place, vices reduce significantly.

When the innocent know that they will find redress at the law court, they will follow through with cases of injustice.

Gradually, peace will return to our society.

To heal the land, judgment must return to the land in fairness.

GDP has different metrics. Our politicians will be fast to sell us the value for Total GDP, then tag us the largest economy in Africa.

Remember that we have the population and free crude oil. Total GDP rarely account for the productive input of individual.

GDP Per Capital Income is another index

Total GDP – Total Gross Domestic Product as the name implies shows the volume of production for a country.

With the population of Nigeria ranking 7th or 8th, the GDP cannot be lower realistically; coupled without FREE oil.

The question is? Where is the money going? In the hand of few coupled with poor governance and corruption.

Then we come to

GDP Per Capital Income… This is the average income per citizen. We all do know that citizens welfare is poor in Nigeria.

Few earn insanely high while most are poor.

Per Capital Income talks about the average productivity and welfare of the citizens.

We cannot rejoice with a high GDP growth until we know what the Per Capital Income is.

For per capital income Seychelles has the highest and Nigeria one of the lowest.

Politicians will show you what the Total GDP is not the GDP Per Capital Income index.
